    A legacy of faith.

    And Beer.

The sisters of Cistercian order founded their abbey in the Limburg region of Belgium in the 12th century.

Soon after, they began brewing beer.

Today, Brouwerij Cornelissen brews the beers on behalf of the sisters using recipes passed down for eight centuries.

    Herkenrode Cister

Herkenrode Cister is a blonde abbey beer. It’s an all-natural beer, brewed only with two-row malted summer barley, spring water, yeast, and 100% Saaz-Saaz hops. Cister is made using the fine herbs grown at the Abbey’s own herb garden. The beer re-ferments in its bottle.

This is a dry blonde with a fresh, spicy aftertaste.

    Herkenrode Noctis

Herkenrode Noctis is a hearty brown Belgian abbey beer brewed with Munich malt from spring barley and English aroma hops. It’s also all-natural, brewed using only malted barley, hops, spring water, and herbs grown at the Abbey.

The ripening process of the malt and hops in wooden barrels gives the beer a light touch of vanilla and smoke. Noctis is filtered, giving it a nice clear color. It has a nice bitterness and a lightly sweet and spicy aftertaste.

This brown-orange-colored true-Belgian craft beer re-ferments in the bottle.

Herkenrode Noctis received two gold medals in the Monde Selection, was declared the best Belgian dark beer in the World Beer Awards in 2016, and in 2017 received a bronze medal at the Australian International Beer Awards.

    Herkenrode Vesper

The Belgian ‘tripel’ is a type of beer that is esteemed world-wide for its complexity and approachability.

Herkenrode Vesper is an amazing, honest triple abbey beer that distinguishes itself by its full taste and deep golden color. English hops add to the unique and unmistakable aroma of this robust abbey beer.

Vesper ferments a second time in the bottle.

A place of peace and solidarity.

For hundreds of years, ‘Abdij Herkenrode’ was a sanctuary providing shelter and comfort for women of the low country region. Only women were allowed on the grounds, and women ran the abbey and its farm.

    And of course, its brewery.

For eight centuries, the Herkenrode name has stood for tranquility and integrity.
    And great beer.

Middle Ages were a great time for beer.

In an age when water might kill you, beer was healthy and nutritious.

838 years ago later, the still-healthy and nutritious beers of the Herkenrode Abbey are available in America for the first time.
